Kara Browne, Saskatchewan Cancer Agency

"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to CAPhO for selecting me to receive the Technician/Assistant Award.  It’s an honor to receive this recognition from an organization who so clearly values innovation, education and pushing beyond traditional roles.  I have been fortunate to work in practice settings that have allowed me opportunities to fulfill new roles and challenges as our profession evolves. I am also grateful to work alongside amazing coworkers who I learn from every day. Thank you again to CAPhO."

Volunteer Recognition Award

Awarded since 2015

2020

Colleen Thurber, Saskatchewan Cancer Agency

"I am both excited and honored to accept the CAPhO Volunteer Recognition Award and I extend my gratitude to the CAPhO Awards Committee, the CAPhO Board of Directors, and all of the members whose passion for oncology practice have cultivated a network of exceptional practitioners. I have learned so much from, and take pride in helping to plan CAPhO conferences and educational offerings, attending conferences, and learning about the practices in pharmacies across the country. I have spent the last fifteen years working at an outpatient cancer clinic and enhancements to treatment options, safe preparation, and scope of practice has been vast. There is never a shortage of educational sessions or online learning to take in. I am proud to be a pharmacy technician and want to play a small part in showing how much each member of the pharmacy team contributes to best practice.  This award is a bright spot in a year that has brought unanticipated challenges.  Thank you!"

Larry Broadfield Distinguished Service Award

Mario de Lemos, BC Cancer

"I feel honoured to be recognized by my peers with the Larry Broadfield Distinguished Service Award. I would like to thank CAPhO for the opportunities to contribute to oncology pharmacy practice over the years, including co-chairing the 2004 National Oncology Pharmacy Symposium, whose format has evolved into the highly successful CAPhO conferences, and the invitation to present at various occasions. I also thank the BC Cancer for the opportunities to promote our profession to the wider audience, such as projects which led to conference presentations, publications, award recognitions, etc., as well as participation in the inaugural Expert Review Panel of the pan-Canadian Oncology Drug Review. Finally I would like to thank Larry, who will always be the shoulders that I stand on as an oncology pharmacy professional."

Esther Jadusingh, Alberta Children's Hospital

"I would like to thank Rachel Heisler a Pharmacist that I precepted during her final PharmD rotation at the Alberta Children's Hospital in the summer of 2019. Rachel is a seasoned hospital pharmacist and was a pleasure to have as a learner. Thank you for your nomination Rachel! I would also like to thank all my preceptors, colleagues and mentors over the years that have helped my develop my practice and preceptoring skills. I would also like to acknowledge my Pharmacy Team of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists in Oncology at the Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary. They are a great team and it makes coming to work and precepting and mentoring colleagues a real pleasure. Thank you!"

Student Member Award

Awarded since 2016

2020

Nastaran Keshmiri, University of Waterloo

"I am very honoured to be receiving the CAPhO Student Member Award for my contributions in the area of oncology pharmacy practice. As a pharmacy student, I had the opportunity to collaborate with oncology pharmacists and take part in various research projects in the field of oncology. Furthermore, I was fortunate to lead an excellent team of students as the president of the Oncology Pharmacy Interest Group at the University of Waterloo to raise awareness and promote the role of pharmacists in oncology. I would like to thank Dr. Tom McFarlane for his continuous support throughout my time as a pharmacy student and for nominating me for this award. Lastly, I’d like to express my sincere appreciation and thank the CAPhO Board of Directors and the Awards Committee for this special honour."

CAPhO Merit Award

Awarded since 2009

2020

Alicia Wall, Eastern Health

"My sincere thanks to the CAPhO Awards Committee and my colleagues for their recognition of the Eastern Health Chemotherapy Vial Optimization Project with the Merit Award.  Since 2018, this project has realized a continued positive impact on the sustainability of oncology drug funding through significant reductions in chemotherapy waste and on the quality of compounded sterile chemotherapy products.  The success of the Chemotherapy Vial Optimization Project lies in the contributions of many pharmacy team members who helped translate the project findings into practice, as well as the support from Eastern Health’s leadership who encouraged creativity and innovation."

CAPhO Past-President Award

Awarded since 2003, every two years

2020

Philip Shaheen, Cape Breton Cancer Centre & Dalhousie University College of Pharmacy

"I would like to thank the membership of CAPhO for the opportunity to serve you in the role of President these last two years.  It was an honor and a privilege to be involved with such a highly passionate group of individuals on the Board; all of whom have shown a great shared desire to continue to grow CAPhO in exciting ways.  I want to extend my appreciation of the support they provided to me personally as I 'placed my hand on the wheel' to help steer CAPhO's journey.  I am looking forward to continuing to serve and advocating for CAPhO and Oncology Pharmacy for my remaining time on the Board, and hopefully beyond.   Thank you all again; and be well."
