lcome to the Canadian Association of Pharmacy in Oncology (CAPhO)! CAPhO is a national forum for oncology pharmacists, technicians, pharmacy assistants and health care professionals with an interest in oncology pharmacy.
It’s an exciting time within the oncology field as new research and practice changes are occurring each day, all in the hopes of eradicating a group of diseases responsible for the deaths of many Canadians each year. Drug and supportive care therapy are continually evolving as we gain a better insight as to why cancer occurs and how it progresses. Keeping pace with new research and evolving standards of care is a challenge faced by oncology pharmacists, technicians and pharmacy assistants. Ensuring drug therapy is provided safely and appropriately, while maintaining quality of life for patients and their families are goals all members, working within oncology pharmacy, strive towards.
CAPhO is committed to providing our members with the tools to enable them to provide patient care that is consistent with best practices. We endeavor to do this by offering educational activities that are current, relevant and interesting. We also believe it’s important to that chemotherapy and other drug therapy be provided in the safest possible manner and will continue to maintain appropriate pharmacy practice standards. As well, because we are a national forum, our members from coast to coast have the opportunity to meet colleagues, exchange views and practices, and network with others who practice in oncology pharmacy. Finally, we recognize the importance of the development of oncology pharmacy as an area of specialty practice; as such we are your advocates.
CAPhO is committed to the promotion of oncology pharmacy practice in Canada. We will need your help and involvement in achieving this goal. Along with being an active and engaged member, we hope you will consider volunteering for CAPhO initiatives as your voice will ensure we continue to be progressive.
